  • Design, simulation, fabrication and testing of novel MEMS (Microelectro mechanical Systems) devices, microsensors and microactuators. Areas include inertial MEMS sensors (accelerometers, gyroscopes), RF MEMS, Optical MEMS (micromirrors, optical switches),  Bio MEMS (Micropumps, micromixers).  
  • Nanotechnology and NEMS (Nanoelectromechanical Systems), quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) based nanoelectronic circuits, carbon nanotube (CNT) based nanosensors for medical applications.
  • Low power VLSI design, VLSI testing, as well as analog and mixed signal circuit design for MEMS/NEMS-based System-on-Chip (SoC) application.

  8. Received ESMD (Exploration Systems Mission Directorate) National Design Challenge Project Grant from NASA Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium. The grant was awarded to UB excavator team for NASA 1st lunabotics mining competition in Kennedy Space Center, FL on May 27-28, 2010. Status: funded, Funding amount: $8776.42 (Among it, $4500 was from NASA CT Space consortium, and $4276.42 from UB School of Engineering). The team effort led to a trophy from NASA and the team was interviewed by reporters from Connpost newspaper and also reported in UB News. A trophy was also awarded from NASA to UB excavator team for joining the lunabotic competition. Advisors of UB excavator team: Prof. Xingguo Xiong, Prof. Jeremy Li (Prof. Jeremy Li left the team in May 10 due to family emergency. As a result, Prof. Xingguo Xiong was the sole advisor who led the team in the robotic prototyping and travel to NASA Space Center for competition.)
