Every year, thousands of girls and women lose their lives because of female genital mutilation (FGM). Some of them die from shock, hemorrhage, infection, or AIDS spread by communal ceremonies. But all of them lose their chance for health, happiness, and fulfillment of their potential and hopes in life. The Godparents Association seeks men and women of good will to serve as "godparents" to young women at risk of FGM in Uganda. Like the Godmother in the picture, you can protect these girls by helping us to pay their school fees, encourage them in their resistance to FGM, and shelter them from forcible cutting. The Godparents Association also provides tutoring, training for those with special abilities, and motivating experiences so that these young women can become leaders of women in their culture, their country, and the world.
