About YDS Summer Camp

The Young Data Science (YDS) summer camp brings together a collaborative group of 8-10 high school students from around New York and Connecticut. For two weeks this summer, students will participate in an introduction to data analytics, learn intensive computer programming languages including Java and Python, and tour many aspects of data science.

The camp's goal is to expose motivated and academically promising students to object-oriented programming (Java) and data science programming (Python), and social media data analytics.

Young Data Science provides an intensive, hands-on science curriculum that emphasizes discovery through data science lecture, research lab tours, invited speakers in data science, as well as programming language sessions.

The curriculum is designed by UB faculty, and graduate and professional students. UB Ph.D students and Computer Science students serve a vital role as teaching assistants and mentors. In addition, there will be a field trip to IBM T.J. Watson, NY including tour and lunch with Korean scientists at IBM T.J. Watson.
