Mission Statement

The Student Congress is the official representative body of the full-time undergraduate student population at the University of Bridgeport. The Student Congress derives its powers, limitations, and responsibilities from the entire student body. The Student Congress is charged with upholding the Student Bill of Rights and ensuring that these rights are not denied. According to the Preamble of the Constitution of the Full-Time Undergraduate Student Congress, the goals of the Student Congress are "to facilitate student communications, to coordinate and encourage student participation, to provide means for responsible and effective student participation in appropriate decision-making process of the University, to further student welfare and student interest, to insure justice for students, to insure responsibility of students, to promote student participation in academic change and excellence, and to coordinate all of these into one main directive – that of a more complete educational experience." Each of these points is subsumed in the responsibilities of the several Congress bodies and officers. The overall agenda for the Student Congress is set by the president, in consultation with the rest of the executive board. Each member of the executive board contributes ideas from their respective jurisdiction; Vice-president – academic affairs, Speaker of the House – social affairs, Executive Secretary – public relations, Chief Financial Officer – financial affairs. The objective of the executive board is to guide the Student Congress into a coherent and coordinated effort that will augment the potency and emphasize the validity of the Student Congress to raise pertinent and resolvable issues.
