Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow in Wellbore

Temperature prediction inside wellbore is critical for petroleum and geothermal drilling operations, such as drilling fluid and cement slurry design, drill bit design and thermal stresses evaluation in tubing and casings. Inaccurate temperature estimation can cause wellbore blow-out, which could lead to disasters like Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We are developing a numerical simulator to predict the transient temperature distributions in complicated wellbore structures with various flow paths for drilling, injection and productions operations for both land and offshore wells.
