ARTICLE 1:   

The organization shall be known as the “University of Bridgeport Chess Club”.

ARTICLE 2 - (Purpose):

The Chess Club will promote the study and knowledge of the game of chess, for its own sake as an art and enjoyment, but also as a means for the improvement of society at our school. It will inform, educate, and foster the development of current players and potential players. It will also encourage the development of the game itself.

ARTICLE 3 - (Membership):   

Any full or part-time student.

ARTICLE 4 – (Officers): 

Officers of the club shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

ARTICLE 5 – (Selection and Duties of Officers): 

Selection 1:  All officers shall be elected at the beginning of each fall semester (annually) by the majority vote at a general meeting.

Selection 2:  Duties of officers:

A)    President:

1)      Preside over and conduct meetings

2)      Call special meetings

3)      Keep members of the subject and within time limits

4)      Appoint committees

5)      Follow-up club activities and check on progress being made

6)      Keep club working in a satisfactory manner

7)      Attend all House of Representative Meetings

 

B)    Vice President:

1)      Preside at meetings in the absence of the President

2)      Be prepared to assume duties and responsibilities of the President

3)      Prepare and read the minutes of the meetings

 

C)    Coordinator:

1)      Maintain up to date records of all meetings and activities

2)      Count and record rising vote when taken

3)      Read communications at meetings

4)      Attend to all correspondence

5)      Send out and post notices

6)      Call the meeting in order in absence of the presiding officer

7)      Keep the permanent records of the club

 

D)    Treasurer:

1)      Prepare financial statements and reports

2)      Pay out club funds as authorized

3)      Keep the financial records of the club

4)      Assist in preparing an annual budget of estimated receipts and expenditures

5)      Receive and act as custodian of the club’s funds

6)      File financial records and club activities at the end of each semester

ARTICLE 6 – (Amendments):

            Amendments to this constitution shall be approved by a two-thirds majority vote of those members present at the organized meeting.

ARTICLE 7 – (Dues):

            No dues shall be required.

ARTICLE 8 – (Voting Quorum):

            Each member of the club will have the right to participate in the decision-making processes by secret vote.

ARTICLE 9 – (Expulsion of Members):

            Any officer can be removed from his/her position in case he/she omits the accomplishments of his/her duties.

ARTICLE 10 – (Attendance):

            All members of the club must attend at least 75% of the meetings to keep his/her active membership.

ARTICLE 11 – (Committees):

            Committees shall be created according to the activities and events being held for each semester.

ARTICLE 12 – (Meetings):

            The club shall hold meetings twice a week.

ARTICLE 13 – (Non-Discrimination):

            Neither this organization, nor any officer or individual shall pass laws, amendments, by-laws, or engage in acts that discriminate or tend to discriminate against any person, persons, organization, or groups, because of race, creed, color, gender, disability (physical or otherwise), political views, or sexual preference.
